Bericht van het hoofdkwartier (Bryan, eFX)

First, I would like to thank everyone for their interest in our ANH Vader helmets. I really appreciate the passion and knowledge that many of you have shared with us on many of the forums.

I would like to share some insight into the prototypes that we had on display at Comic Con and will be on display at Celebration V in a couple weeks.

- These castings were made by our vendor in Asia. However, because of the time constraint, they had to take Gino's master, make the mold and the castings in only 4 days. Since this is the first time that they were casting the Vader helmet, they did not know and "understand" the helmet and address and refine any of the molding processes and techniques that would be required. For example in the mouth area, they wanted to help by cutting it out for us. They actually used a dremel with a large diameter bit to cut it out. That is why the mouth area seems a little "sloppy" and have the large radii in the corners! So rest assured that all of these issues will be resolved in the manufacturing development process.

- The same set of molds were used to make both versions of the helmets. In production, QC will ensure that the castings are consistent.

- The castings were then sent to Gino and he also only had 4 days to prep the castings and paint them in order to get them to San Diego in time for Comic Con. We received them in San Diego the morning of preview night! I think Gino did a GREAT job considering the limited time that he had. I know that he was "a little" frustrated that he was not able to "fix" the issues with these castings and make them perfect.

- 2 fellow RPF'ers were kind enough to supply us with the tusks and the mesh. Both were sent directly to us in San Diego, so Gino did not get a chance to weather one of the tusks.

- Some of you questioned why we showed these helmets, knowing some of the issues. You have to remember the incredible exposure our products get at an event like Comic Con. And I understand that probably more than 95% of the people will not be able to identify the issues we discuss in the forums. In fact, most people (even Star Wars fans) do not even know that Vader's helmet was different in each episode. And then, when we fix all of the issues that us prop guys obsess over in final production, they will not even notice or appreciate the difference. I learned an enlightening lesson when I was at Master Replicas. We advertised the FX Lightsabers by character, episode, etc. However most people, believe it or not, simply identified and purchased them by the color of the blade, not even knowing that each character had a different hilt! (It was then that I realized that we are just a bunch of snobs!!! hahaha!)

We will be sharing pictures through the development process on our website and appreciate your patience as we work through the development process. I am confident that the final product will not only meet your expectations, but will be one of your most prized pieces in your collection.

Thanks!

Bryan

UPDATE

Darth Vader Helmet

Episode IV: A New Hope

"I find your lack of faith disturbing!"- Darth Vader

Luke Skywalker may have had no patience before his Jedi training, but all of you sure do! And it’s paid off! We are thrilled to (finally) announce one of our most anticipated products: Darth Vader’s original helmet as first seen in Episode IV: A New Hope !  This replica was cast from the vintage molds in the Lucasfilm archives, which are believed to be Rick Baker’s original molds from 1977.  Lucasfilm allowed us to make a direct casting from these molds for our master pattern – this is NOT a digital scan! And this is what makes this a truly exciting collectible: a direct lineage to the original helmet, and thus be as true to the original filming prop possible!

There will be 2 different versions of the Darth Vader Helmet replica to choose from:

Limited Edition

This version will possess all of the qualities of the original prop seen on-screen such as the correct, asymmetric geometry, accurate lenses, metal tusks and metal mouthpiece/chin grills. This version will be a little more 'idealized' for a slightly more pristine look. The face mask's two-toned black and gunmetal paint pattern will be sprayed on for a more even coating and the dents and scratches found on the original helmet will be filled-in or removed. As usual, the edition size will be determined by the pre-order, but limited to 1000 pieces worldwide.

Legend Edition

This version will replicate the helmet as it appeared on screen! Perfect for the Star Wars purist (you know who you are). It will have all of the qualities of the Limited Edition, but the face mask's two-toned black and gunmetal paint pattern will have the film-accurate brush-painted look and will have some of the more identifiable dents and scratches found on the original helmet. The edition size will be limited to only 250 pieces worldwide, thus making this one of our rarest collectibles.

Mark your calendars and set your alarm clocks to pre-order this essential piece of history for every Star Wars collection.  Your collection will not be 'complete' without it!

The Legend Edition will be available for pre-order starting  Wednesday, April 20 at 9AM PST. This version is EXCLUSIVE to our website.  There is a $350 Non-Refundable deposit required when you place your pre-order.

The Limited Edition will be available for pre-order on Friday, April 22 at 9AM PST. This version will be available through our website and all of our authorized retailers and distributors.  There is a $300 Non-Refundable deposit required at the time you place your pre-order.

*Plus S/H and applicable CA Sales Tax.  For our international customers, you will be responsible for all duties and taxes levied by your country.

Gino van eFX op verschillende Star Wars fora:

Citaat
Hey guys, I received the latest sample from China on Friday and as hoped, it finally made the cut for final approval!

This is a Legend version but both versions are approved as the issues we were having had nothing to do with the differences between the two versions.

The shipping box is quite large, but necessary to ensure a safe journey from the factory to your display shelf.

This sample was approved with the exception of the black weathering on the right tusk which will be corrected in the production pieces. Outside of that it is good to go.

It's been a long road getting here, but now it's full steam ahead!!
You're going to LOVE it!

Here are some pics.

Hehe... Er komt eindelijk schot in.

I would like to give you a brief update on the status of this project. Lucasfilm has given us the final approval and thus, we are now in production. In fact, we had on display actual production pieces of both the Legend and Limited Editions at WonderCon in Anaheim, CA this past weekend.

We anticipate shipping the first quantity from Asia in about 30 days. We do not have a definite number of helmets that we will ship yet since each helmet will be thoroughly inspected and some helmets will be rejected because of our strict Quality Control Specifications.

We will be producing the Legend Edition first, followed by the Limited Edition.

We will be allocating the helmets in the order that the pre-orders were received. Your order number is ******. For those of you who ordered a Legend, you may remember that we overloaded the credit card server and caused a huge backlog in the credit card authorization process. So, for the those who ordered a Legend, we will allocate in the order that the authorizations came back from the credit card gateway, which may not necessarily be the same order that the orders were submitted for authorization. We will contact you when the helmet allocated to you is en route from Asia via e-mail, so please ensure that our e-mails do not end up in your SPAM file.

Thanks once again for your patience! We have set up an e-mail address specifically for questions and assistance for the Darth Vader helmet. vaderhelp@efxcollectibles.com
